Coach Brian Callahan sends clear message about what Titans are still missing

Could the head coach have tipped his hand at a first-round priority?

This offseason, the Tennessee Titans have gone through quite a few major changes, but mostly positive ones.

Other than some big-time free agency and trade additions, the Titans of course hired a new head coach in Brian Callahan. He and the front office have done an admirable job attacking this team’s needs and have built a much better roster in just one offseason.

Yet, there are still some clear holes.

Wednesday, Callahan met with the media and mentioned a couple of key areas that he sees as a need, still, at this point in the offseason.

Brian Callahan seems to believe the Titans are far from done on the defensive line

The Titans certainly have a difference-maker up front in Jeffrey Simmons. But, Callahan clearly wants to add more talent across the line, and that might lead one to believe Tennessee could be in on a defensive lineman in the first round. But, if that was the case, then a trade back would make sense.

At pick no. 7, there isn’t a defensive lineman worth taking. But, if they moved back into the teens, someone like Texas’ Byron Murphy could be in play, or even Illinois’ Jer’Zhan Newton.

If the Titans wanted to address the defensive line in Round 2, a couple of notable names might make sense there: Clemson’s Ruke Orhorhoro or Florida State’s Braden Fiske. In most mocks, Fiske has been going higher, with Orhorhoro being a later-second type of prospect.

The Titans could be a team to watch when it comes to Brock Bowers in the 2024 NFL Draft

Another spot Callahan mentioned was at the tight end position. Of course, Chigozeim Okonkwo has a lot of tools in his arsenal but has not yet become a focal point of the offense. Could Tennessee be a team to watch for this year’s top tight end prospect?

Georgia’s Brock Bowers is a wildcard. He’s good enough to potentially go in the top 10 picks, but based on team needs, he might not go until the late teens. Bowers is essentially a wide receiver trapped in a tight end’s body, and he can line up virtually anywhere you’d like hiim to.

Adding another weapon for quarterback Will Levis seems to be a logical point to stand on, whether it comes at tight end or wide receiver. Regardless, Tennessee has been aggressive this offseason and that shouldn’t stop now. Callahan and that front office should continue to not pull any punches.
