Jaylen Waddle’s price goes up? Lions’ St. Brown gets extension

The Lions agreeing to an extension for receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown has the internet buzzing on what it means for Dolphins receiver Jaylen Waddle, coming slightly more than a week after Eagles receiver DeVonta Smith was thought to set the bar for receivers with his extension.

First, it’s important to keep in mind the Dolphins plan to pick up Waddle’s fifth-year option for 2025, which would put his salary at about $15.6 million. But the Dolphins would prefer to reach a long-term agreement with Waddle that would lock him up for the majority of his career. Such a scenario would afford Waddle security for life and a hefty raise.

St. Brown is getting a four-year extension worth $112 million, with $85 million guaranteed. Smith has what equates to a four-year deal at about $90.6 million.

Of the three, St. Brown has the best stats from 2023: 119 receptions, 1,515 yards (12.7 average) and 10 touchdowns. Smith: 81 receptions, 1,066 yards (13.2) and seven scores. Waddle: 72 receptions, 1,014 yards (14.1) and four TDs.

One other consideration: Tyreek Hill’s scheduled cap number for 2025 is $34.2 million.
