Boston Red Sox player guilty of child sex abuse has had been arrested by the Florida police

Authorities said on Monday that Austin Maddox, a former pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, had been taken into custody in Florida as part of an underage sex sting.

According to Jacksonville Sheriff TK Waters, Maddox was one of 27 persons detained as a result of a multi-agency operation that concluded late last month. According to police, they are charged with approaching people they thought were minors on the internet and asking for sex.

According to the arrest report, Maddox, 33, started corresponding with an undercover agent on April 28 while posing as a minor.

Even after she revealed to him that she was only 14, he declared his desire to have intercourse with her, according to officials.

Authorities said that after Maddox consented to meet the girl at a prearranged location, he was taken into custody by police. In addition to traveling to a meeting after using a computer to solicit a kid, he is accused of four felonies.

He has a $300,000 bond and is being detained in jail. An Associated Press email for comment from his attorney was not immediately answered.

In 2012, Maddox was selected by the Boston Red Sox after playing collegiate ball for the University of Florida.

After playing in the minor leagues for a while, he made his big league debut with the squad in 2017.

He was a member of the Red Sox for around three months before returning to the minor leagues to recuperate from injuries to his shoulders. 2019 saw his departure from the team.
