Report: Vikings Signing Veteran CB Shaquill Griffin to One-Year Deal
Griffin has made 83 career starts for four different teams.

The Vikings are signing veteran cornerback Shaquill Griffin to a one-year deal worth up to $6 million, according to Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz.

Griffin, who turns 29 this summer, has made 83 career starts for four different teams across seven NFL seasons. He was drafted by the Seahawks in the third round in 2017 after a standout career at UCF, and he started 57 games for Seattle (including playoffs) over the course of his rookie contract. Griffin recorded 51 passes defended, six interceptions, and nine tackles for loss as a Seahawk, making the Pro Bowl in 2019.

Three years ago, Griffin signed a big free agent contract with the Jaguars. He had a solid debut season in Jacksonville, starting 14 games and earning a 72 PFF grade that was the second-best of his career. But injuries struck in 2022, limiting him to five contests, and he was released last offseason for cap savings. Griffin signed with the Texans last year, played in ten games, got released, and then finished the season with the Panthers, who claimed him off waivers.

The last couple years have been a bit of a rollercoaster for Griffin, so he’ll be looking to bounce back with the Vikings in 2024. The 6-foot, 200-pound veteran should have an opportunity to compete for a starting job as an outside corner in Minnesota. He’s a big pickup who brings experience and playmaking ability to a Vikings CB room that also features Byron Murphy Jr., Mekhi Blackmon, and Akayleb Evans. Griffin figures to compete with Evans to start on the boundary, with either Murphy or Blackmon playing mostly in the slot.
