Tennessee defensive line coach Rodney Garner is one of the top assistants in college football, which is universally recognized. He commands a lot of respect across the spot, and his resume speaks for itself. He’s coached major college football at several different spots and has always done two things well: produce NFL pass rushers and sign elite recruits.
There were conversations earlier in the offseason that Garner may leave Knoxville, Tennessee, to join his alma mater, the Auburn Tigers. Garner opted to stay with the team and has now signed a one-year extension that ties him to the program through the 2025 season. He will make $900,000 annually, a bump in pay from his previous deal.
The Vols lost linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary to the Michigan Wolverines earlier this offseason, so locking down their top assistant was paramount. With Garner running the show, Tennessee’s defensive line looks good for the foreseeable future, especially after their production last season.
