Florida State has already emphasized its 2026 recruiting class where they have obtained two four-star prospects with safety Darryl Bell III and athlete Efrem White in the fold.
There is a portion of the fan base that states that they do not worry about the 2026 commitments due to it being so far away from their signing. For reference, four-star wide receiver Devin Carter (son of former Florida State wide receiver Dexter Carter who played for the Seminoles from 1986-1989) de-committed from the program in the last few weeks.
However, the coaching staff is huge on evaluating prospects and getting talented prospects into the fold if they believe that they can project highly. It is all about setting the future foundation of the program. That is the blueprint of elite college football teams.
As I alluded to in a previous article, several prospects from the 2025 and 2026 recruiting cycles visited Tallahassee this weekend. However, there is one prospect that I would like to focus on. That prospect is Class of 2026 Miami four-star wide receiver commit Malachi Toney.
Toney is from American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida. The talented four-star prospect has been committed to the arch-rival Hurricanes since August 2023. It has been well-documented that defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. was formerly the head football coach at American Heritage, which helped reel in several prospects from the talent-rich high school.
It looks encouraging as wide receivers coach Ron Dugans is continuing to develop a relationship with Toney. The talented playmaker recorded 35 receptions for 621 yards and 8 touchdowns during this past season.
While I understand that he is a younger prospect who will likely have a ton of visits that he participates in, it could be something to monitor closely if the coaching staff gets him to visit again for the Garnet and Gold Spring Showcase on April 20th.
