Spurs fans vent frustrations after loosing potential target to rivals and blame it on Popovich
Gianmarco Pozzecco left LDLC ASVEL after spending just a couple of months at the club, and Pierric Poupet took over from the Italian national team’s head coach.
After it became official, ASVEL’s president Tony Parker commented on the decision to part ways with Pozzecco, expressing his disappointment with the Italian tactician.
“I am very, very disappointed with his performance, with his management of the team. We knew for two or three weeks that it couldn’t go any further. No club in the Euroleague plays like that. It’s unrealistic and simply impossible to play three matches per week with nine players,” Parker said to L’Equipe.
Parker also emphasized that Pozzecco didn’t give enough chances to the young players of the team.
“His attitude was more and more negative; he had difficulty remotivating the players, and little by little, they were the ones who no longer believed in him. In addition, he had decided not to play our young people. I don’t want any more coaches who do that; it’s not our philosophy.”
ASVEL’s president believes that the Italian coach eventually gave up.
“Above all, I find that he has given up. As a competitor, it is something that I cannot understand, to give up like that after a month and a half. But I could see that he was not going to leave on his own. He was not going to leave money on the table. It’s business,” Tony Parker concluded.
