Tennessee Titans sign a surprising Free Agent in a blockbuster deal 😱😱
Two weeks into free agency, Ran Carthon has completely reshaped the Tennessee Titans roster.
By focusing on quality over quantity, the Titans look much more intimidating on both sides of the ball and they aren’t finished yet. According to Ran Carthon and Brian Callahan on Monday at the owners meetings, the Titans are still planning on adding veterans to this roster for depth and competition.
While Carthon has knocked this offseason out of the park so far, he did lament missing out on two players. Carthon attempted to bring Denico Autry and Azeez Al-Shaair back to Nashville, but the two sides couldn’t come to an agreement so they had to let them walk.
In that same article, Carthon talked about how he was still talking to some of the Titans former players who are still looking for landing spots. Looking at the free agent list for Tennessee, the position that they are probably talking to the most is defensive line considering that Kyle Peko, Jaleel Johnson, Ross Blacklock, and Marlon Davidson are all free agents.
If Carthon brings back one of those linemen to bolster depth and compete for a spot on the 53-man roster, that is fine, but he should continue to scour the free agent market first.
The Tennessee Titans wanted to bring back Denico Autry and couldn’t get a deal done, so they obviously have a role in this defense for a versatile EDGE/DT hybrid. That is something that Calais Campbell can do at a high level considering he has bounced back and forth from tackle to EDGE over the last few years.
Surprisingly, Campbell is also remarkably durable with 17 games played last season including over 700 snaps. In fact, since 2015 Campbell has played in 138 of 147 games, which is enough of a resume to assume that he knows how to stay healthy and ready to go over the course of a season.
And when Campbell is on the field, he isn’t just there taking up space. Last season he led the Falcons in sacks with 6.5 and he had 10 TFLs as well. That would be a nice boost to this Tennessee Titans defense.
Last year Campbell played with the Atlanta Falcons where he was on the same team with new Tennessee Titans linebacker coach Frank Bush and new Tennessee Titans secondary coach Steven Jackson. They should be able to speak on just what kind of worker Campbell is and how much they were able to get out of him.
So the Titans have a role that he could fill, he knows how to say healthy, he has coaches who will vouch for his work ethic, and he is still a very productive player. That certainly seems like someone they should be very interested in now that the big free agent moves are in the rearview mirror.
