Eagles’ Jalen Hurts Donates $200K to Philadelphia School District to Install AC Units
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is donating $200,000 to install new air conditioners in 10 schools within the Philadelphia School District.
Laura Fay of CBS News Philadelphia explained the importance of Hurts’ donation.
“District schools have had to dismiss early in the past because of extreme heat, and heat waves are getting more frequent,” Fay wrote.
“Hot classrooms make it harder for kids to learn and can result in lower test scores, research shows. One report from the National Bureau of Economic Research found that without air conditioning, ‘each 1-degree increase in average school year temperature is associated with a 1% decline in the amount learned during the school year.'”
Hurts spoke Friday at an assembly in Philadelphia’s Edward Gideon Elementary School, one of schools that will benefit from the donation.
“I see so much potential, so much opportunity, I see so many beautiful spirits in these young kids,” Hurts said, per Fox 29 Philadelphia. “Everybody has a dream and they deserve to reach those dreams with the proper resources.”
Hurts has showcased his generosity and benevolence on numerous occasions since arriving in Philadelphia in 2020. Of note, he’s worked with the KB Foundation, a youth outreach organization that serves to “empower youth in the greater Philadelphia area since 2017.”
Three years ago, Hurts also donated $30,000 to a Chester County, Pennsylvania family whose oldest son was fighting cancer.
Hurts is entering his third season as the Eagles’ full-time starting quarterback. The 25-year-old’s accolades thus far include a pair of Pro Bowls and leading the Eagles to an NFC title in 2022 as well
